In this Tutorial you will consider:
- How to make the most of your Unit Outline as you begin to research
- Understanding what a topic or question is asking to direct your research
- Note-taking skills including different note-taking strategies
- Reading skills for research
- Reading difficult material
- Reading speed, comprehension & understanding
Getting Started: Research
As you begin preparing for your Assessments you will need to think about research: your systematic process for collecting information about your topic and then collating the evidence and your ideas that lead to your answer.
To do this you need to:
- Know what the Assessment Task is
- Understand what the Question/Task is asking of you
- Be able to find appropriate resources (this is covered in Tutorial 4)
- Read the sources effectively
- Critically analyse the sources (this is covered in Tutorial 5)
- Take notes from those resources
Activity: Reflect on Research Skills
Reflect on which of these points you think you will do well and which will be difficult for you. Can you explain your choices?
