Integrating scholarly into life and ministry: helpful assumptions
Once aspect of Education Excellence is that we want you to become scholars that are able to integrate what you learn into your life and ministry. Below is a list of assumptions about studying at Tertiary Level - they are also good starting points to help you develop scholarly integration!
- Ownership of study: You are responsible for your study – you have chosen to study and are the driver of your program of study and your life as a student.
- Participation: We expect that you will participate in the Units and activities that you have committed yourself to. We are here to encourage you and facilitate some of your learning - but again, since you own your study, we expect that you will do what you have faithfully committed yourself to do – attend lectures, complete assignments, attend community events if they are expected, engage in the formative process.
- Questioning & exploration: We expect that you will be eager to explore new ideas and be willing to question yourself and others. Be a curious student!
- Critical Thinking: We expect that as you question you will respectfully and intelligently critique the things you read, hear and explore. Importantly, you will better understand your own perspective and be able to assess the perspectives of others.
- Original Thought: We expect that you will grow in confidence to express your own ideas, with humility and in the position of a learner. We want you to be able to use what you learn in your own contexts, in your own words, in your own ways.
Reflect: Scholarly Integration
Look over the assumptions and reflect on what you think will be the easiest and which will be the most challenging for you as you study.
Before submitting your reflection and moving on to the next topic, spend some time in prayer about these strengths and weakness and ask God to show you ways to integrate your learning in your life and ministry.
